Functional Medicine in Sandpoint, Idaho. Find the Root Cause. Not Just Another Diagnosis.

Have you been told your lab work is “normal” but you still don’t feel well?

Maybe you’re struggling with fatigue, weight gain, hormone imbalance, digestive issues, brain fog, anxiety, chronic pain, autoimmune disease, or inflammation. You’ve seen multiple providers, tried different medications, and still don’t have answers. At Lake Life Wellness Center, we use Functional Medicine to look deeper. Rather than simply treating symptoms, we work to identify and address the underlying factors contributing to illness so your body can function the way it was designed to.

Functional Medicine is a personalized, science-based approach to healthcare that focuses on nutrition, lifestyle, environment, stress, gut health, hormones, genetics, and metabolism. Every patient is unique, and your treatment plan should be too. Our goal is simple: help you understand why your symptoms developed and create a practical roadmap toward better health.

Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner

Danyel Kush is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about helping patients uncover the root cause of their health concerns rather than simply managing symptoms. She believes true healing comes from understanding the whole person and creating individualized treatment plans that support the body, mind, and spirit.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Liberty University in 2010 before completing her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2014, where she went on to teach nursing students at a private university in Washington State. In 2018, Danyel received her Master of Science in Nursing from Gonzaga University, graduating with honors as a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Danyel has experience in both traditional internal medicine and integrative primary care, giving her a unique perspective that combines evidence-based medicine with a whole-person approach to health. She is currently pursuing certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), further expanding her expertise in identifying and addressing the underlying causes of chronic illness.

At Lake Life Wellness Center, Danyel provides functional medicine consultations for concerns such as hormone imbalance, fatigue, thyroid disorders, digestive health, autoimmune conditions, metabolic health, and chronic inflammation. Her goal is to partner with patients to create sustainable, personalized plans that restore health, improve quality of life, and empower them to take an active role in their wellness journey.

Outside of the clinic, Danyel enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and walking her French Mastiffs.

What Makes Our Clinic Different?

Functional Medicine is only one piece of the puzzle.

Dr. Jamie Davis combines more than twenty years of clinical experience with advanced training in Functional Medicine, Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, and Medical Anthropology. This unique combination allows us to view health through multiple lenses and create comprehensive treatment plans that address the whole person.

Unlike many Functional Medicine clinics, we can integrate acupuncture, nutrition, lifestyle counseling, functional laboratory testing, herbal medicine, stress management, and targeted supplementation under one roof.

Our goal is not to create dependence on the clinic. Our goal is to help you understand your body and give you the tools needed to move toward long-term health.

Functional Laboratory Testing

Many chronic health conditions develop long before they appear on standard medical testing.

When appropriate, we may recommend advanced laboratory testing to help evaluate:

  • Blood Sugar Regulation
  • Hormone Balance
  • Thyroid Function
  • Nutrient Deficiencies
  • Gut Health and Microbiome Balance (GI Map)
  • Digestive Function
  • Inflammation
  • Food Sensitivities

Testing is never required. Recommendations are based on your symptoms, goals, and budget.

Healing takes time. Follow-up visits every 4-6 weeks allow us to monitor progress, review labs, adjust recommendations, and continue moving toward your goals. Each visit we dive deeper and add on to your care. Depending on the condition being treated and how deep and complicated it is, this can be anywhere from 3 months to a year. Functional Medicine Follow Up Visits are $150, and are generally 30-45 minutes; will include counseling on progress, symptom tracker, lab review when applicable, and next steps in the treatment plan.

Please note that insurance does not cover functional medicine services. Our provider can order additional lab work if necessary, but this is not a covered service through insurance and would be out of pocket. We use Rupa Healthcare lab services, which provides lab processing at very reasonable rates that are often less money out of pocket than insurance fees or even copays. Lab work is always an optional service and we can assess your health and treatment strategy without them if cost is prohibitive.
