A vision 13 years in the making—now a reality for our patients and community.
A question I’ve been asked often lately is: “Why add a yoga studio?”
There are so many wonderful reasons, and I am deeply grateful to have accomplished this long-held dream this year. The decision to create a yoga space within our wellness center comes from both personal experience and over 15 years of observing what truly supports healing for my patients.
A Personal Journey to Synergy
Early in my career—when my son was a toddler and I was newly pregnant with my twins—one of my jobs expanded her spa into a yoga studio, and my treatment rooms were right next door. This gave me the opportunity to do yoga regularly throughout my pregnancy, and it made a remarkable difference: lower stress, improved mobility and reduced fatigue. In what was otherwise a very challenging pregnancy (did I mention twins?!), yoga became a daily anchor for both body and mind.
After my girls were born, my husband and I took a leap of faith and started my own practice closer to home (the previous job was an hour commute each way, which was not sustainable with a toddler and two babies). I rented a room inside a local yoga studio, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my early career. The synergy between acupuncture and yoga was undeniable—my patients experienced faster healing, longer-lasting results, and a deeper sense of balance when they began practicing yoga regularly in addition to their treatment plans and regular acupuncture care.
But as my practice grew, I eventually outgrew that space in 2012. Ever since, I’ve dreamed of bringing that synergy back under one roof—creating a truly integrated space for healing. And now, after 13 years, that vision has finally come to life at Lake Life Wellness Center.
Why Yoga Belongs in a Wellness Center
Acupuncture, massage, and functional medicine all work to restore balance—releasing tension, improving circulation, supporting the lymphatic system, balancing hormones, and calming the nervous system. But without a movement practice—one that stretches the fascia, builds strength, restores flexibility, and teaches breath and mindfulness—the healing process can be slower and harder to maintain. When the body experiences pain, stress, or injury, it often develops muscle guarding—a subconscious tightening of muscles meant to protect the affected area. While this is the body’s natural defense mechanism, chronic muscle guarding can lead to restricted mobility, poor circulation, and persistent tension that becomes deeply ingrained in the nervous system.
Over time, these patterns become stored as muscle memory, meaning the body “remembers” how to hold tension even after the original injury or stress has passed. This keeps the nervous system in a heightened, protective state and can make it difficult for true healing to take place.Acupuncture works to interrupt these patterns by calming the nervous system, increasing blood flow, releasing fascia, and stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Each treatment helps unwind the stored tension and retrain the body toward balance and relaxation.
However, without a movement plan—one that includes stretching, mindful mobility, and breathwork—the muscles and nervous system can easily revert back to their guarded state. By integrating a consistent yoga practice, patients reinforce the new patterns created by acupuncture. Gentle, restorative movement retrains muscle memory, improves flexibility and strength, and teaches the body how to remain in a parasympathetic (rest-and-heal) state. This combination dramatically improves treatment outcomes, making each session more effective and longer-lasting.
Even one yoga class per week can make a profound difference:
- Treatments hold longer
- Stress levels decrease
- Sleep improves
- Pain reduces
- Digestion and immunity strengthen
Yoga helps the body stay in parasympathetic mode—the “rest and restore” state that allows true healing to occur.
Our yoga studio was designed as a safe, welcoming space—not intimidating or competitive, but nurturing, gentle, and deeply supportive. Whether you’re brand new to yoga or returning after time away, you’ll find our classes accessible, therapeutic, and designed to complement your healing journey.
